Though I enjoyed filming the Glossybox unboxing/first impression videos, I really wanted to change it up and film a video that would be more informative for you guys. In the video, I go through the products I received and how they performed and here on my blog, I will break down the price points of each product and how much this month's box is worth.

There were so many fabulous looks that graced the red carpet of the 2012 Emmys. Picking my three favorite looks was quite difficult, but I somehow managed to do it.
Kerry Washington was stunning in a sparkling gown by Vivienne Westwood. It looked beautiful against her complexion and her figure. Kerry always looks great but this is the best I've seen her yet.

I don't usually pay much attention to Modern Family star Sarah Hyland, but how could I not notice this Marchesa gown that Sarah actually helped co-design! And not only is the gown a stunner, I thought everything from the romantic curls and touches of bling from her jewels, nails, and clutch was just perfect.

My most favorite look of the night was a Reem Acra ballgown donned by Zooey Deschanel. It was an airy periwinkle blue confection perfection that made her porcelain skin glow and her blue eyes sparkle. I thought she looked absolutely exquisite!
A bun is a classy hair style for the fall season and adds a touch of refinement to any look. Hair donuts make it easy for long-locked ladies like me to achieve a sleek and stylish hairstyle. In the following video, I walk you guys through how I create two of my most favorite bun styles.
I'm calling this first bun style a ballerina high bun. It's not your traditional, quaint ballerina bun. It is placed much higher on my head and is a lot fuller with the addition of a hair donut.
I'm naming this next bun style a modern chignon. A classic chignon is usually placed much lower on the head--typically at the nape of the neck. I made the look more contemporary by placing it on top of my head.
The modern chignon differs from the ballerina high bun because a chignon involves twisting the ponytail in a clockwise or couterclockwise direction to form a bun whereas a high bun is typically styled into a donut shape.
I hope you guys try these two hair styles and please tweet me a photo of how great you look! (TWITTER)
I may be a tad late on this but I wanted to share my favorite looks from last Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards. I grew up watching this award show every year, and abiding by tradition, I tuned in again this year.
Miley Cyrus' look was the first I fell in love with. Her Emilio Pucci dress is super fab in every way. This, ladies and gents, is mesh paneling done right. I also love how the dress contrasts amazingly with her sleek and edgy platinum blonde hair. The only thing I would change about this outfit is the clutch she's carrying (I would have paired it with a solid silver clutch instead), but otherwise I think this look is gorgeous.
The next lady being mentioned has an easy-to-dress body shape and stunning complexion...which is why I usually love anything adorned on Zoe Saldana. This blush toned dress by Salvatore Ferragamo is short and chic and just glows off her body. The other components of her look (beachy hair styling, smokey makeup, punchy nails, and minimal jewelry) really allowed the fringy dress to shine. Again, I would change one thing about this outfit-- I would have swapped the chocolate brown ankle strapped sandals for simpler strapped nude sandals. Regardless, she looks fabulous and I love this look.
I really enjoy watching these MTV Video Music Awards because it's a lot more laid back than most award shows and I get to see what the celebrities would wear when they're given more styling freedom. Many celebrities take it to the extremes and really try to make a statement by wearing crazy pieces but my favorite looks consist of tasteful styles that make a bold statement without being garish.

So I finally made the switch to my new blog name -- HighBrowHearts! and I'm super hype about it.
my brainstorm session...finally pinned down a name!
For the past year, I used my default name "jenncyu" for my YouTube and Blogger accounts, but the ending of my current YouTube account was just the inspiration I needed to create a more descriptive name for my blog. I think HighBrowHearts is the most perfect title and represents my blogging objective(s) very nicely.
"High Brow" has always been one of my favorite expressions regarding taste. And I tacked "Hearts" onto the end to express my love for things that I consider to be high brow.
Though the phrase high brow it is usually used in a snooty context, I interpret the phrase differently than most. To me, it represents an individual's refined taste and developed ideas.
Let me expound on this a little more. Contrary to popular belief, I certainly don't believe a person has to live a lavish lifestyle to acquire high brow taste. In fact, I think that thought is shallow and very opposite of what high brow should mean.
My definition of high brow represents a person or idea that is:
1.) Tasteful - considerate ~ appropriate ~ aesthetically conscious
2.) Elegant - natural ~ authentic ~ refined
3.) Intellectual - logical ~ aware ~ creative
...or simply just being genuine & original.
In order to discover one's high brow taste, one must first be themselves. Many people spend their lives trying to create themselves but fail to recognize who they really are and their true taste.
I've always believed being yourself is greater than creating yourself. This school of thought may not be a favorable one, but it's all in how you interpret what I'm expressing. I think often times all the extra fluff people add to their lives in order to supposedly better themselves may feel and appear nice, but in the end, it muddles the core of who the individual is and ultimately, it makes them appear less genuine -at least to me. My question is, if you don't remember to be yourself, then how can you exude anything that is authentic? I guess some people believe creating an image is more valuable than authenticity...to each their own.
Some of you know what I'm talking about...some of you don't...and that's okay. We're not made to understand each other perfectly.
Anyways, I apologize for the tangent I just took you guys on -- I just wanted to give you guys a well-rounded answer for my choice in blog name.
HighBrowHearts will be a collection of posts expressing my personal taste and my loves, and I really hope you guys enjoy my revamped project.
My hopes for this new blog:
The influential people in my life, the ones who have always shown me the importance of being myself, have made me a more honest person with myself and with others and I really hope this blog is a good representation of that. Obviously, this blog and corresponding YouTube channel will take some time to develop, but I hope you all will support me with this change, and I hope my honesty offers you guys continued clarity and inspiration.
I can't wait to start blogging under this new name and can't wait to hear what you all think!
**I also have a new vlog channel name for YouTube...it's called nowandjenn so subscribe for extra clips from my life!**
